Tom Peters on Personal Branding as a “Team Sport”

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Personal branding is an essential aspect of reputation management. Tom Peters, the acclaimed “ur-guru” of management, describes a brand as:

“The description of what you stand for. A brand, described in an engaging and emotional way, can retain existing clients/customers as well as reach out for new ones.”

Yesterday on Twitter he said, “Personal branding is a TEAM SPORT. Your brand is exactly as powerful as your set of allies.”

As co-author of In Search of Excellence—the book that changed the way the world does business, often tagged as the best business book ever – he is in a position to know. If you haven’t read any of his sixteen books, they continue to be relevant.  From his perch at the forefront of the “management guru industry” he invented, so is he.

All the more reason to check out his website and most recent book, The Little BIG Things: 163 Ways to Pursue Excellence.

Business Etiquette: The New Rules in a Digital Age

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

If you read nothing else, check out “5 questions to Ask Yourself About Social and Professional Networking Sites.” If you’re confused about whether LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter will best serve your goals, you won’t be after reading it.

The Guide is an impressive example of effective marketing in the digital era. How? It is building positive brand awareness for Robert Half by delivering relevant how-to information to people…instead of a promotional message that no one cares about or has time to read.
