Congressman Weiner is in a position of immense visibility and will continue to be for some time. He will undoubtedly be taking steps to emerge from this situation and has plenty of advisers to turn to.  Months from now, what can he do to rebuild his reputation? Here are some tips.

Admit your mistakes.

Seek appropriate professional help to overcome them.

Become an expert in online privacy matters.

Establish a non-profit think tank to provide free online resources to people harmed by privacy problems. Develop an advisory board of respected thought-leaders who specialize in the issue.

Raise the funds to endow a new center at New York University, CUNY or other institution that can train a new generation of experts to address and help resolve privacy issues.

Organize an annual conference on the topic.

If you continue to have personal issues relating to inappropriate online behavior, do not become a figurehead or spokesperson for the organization. Just dedicate yourself to the cause by helping raise funds and visibility for it.
